Sustainable Interior Design

You can have great design and still be friendly to the environment

As an environmentally responsible designer, I am committed to constantly trying to use design methods, products, and process that will diminish the ecological impact of design and construction upon the earth.

I understand that for green design to be appealing, it must be beautiful. Unlike years ago, there are so many beautiful fabrics, furniture, and window coverings available today that can actually have a healthy impact on you and the planet and still be aesthetically pleasing.

Listed below are some basic sustainable design practices that I have incorporated into my work.

  • More ecologically sound choices of wood
  • Specify Green paint and other finishing materials that have the lowest possible levels of volatile organic compounds (VOC)
  • Specify paints and finishes that do not contain formaldehyde
  • Specify sustainable fabrics
  • Use rapidly renewable flooring products
  • Specify energy-rated appliances with the Energy-Star rating
  • Design around standard product sizes to reduce material waste
  • Consider the recyclability of all materials used to redirect their next-life away from landfills
